Nov 18 (Lagos) - Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred Nigeria highest award GCON on his state visit to Abuja over the weekend. This is a massive win for Nigerian government to get Modi to visit the Country at a time when our economy is going through a rough continuous rough period.
PM Modi already announced that India will be donating 20 metric tonnes (20,000 KGS) of food items to Nigeria to help the Country alleviate the suffering from the flood disaster that has affected many parts of the Country. This is go a long way in bringing down inflation, removing pressure from the forex market and actually feed hungry people in flood affected parts of Nigeria. He also called out India's business community in Nigeria for the amazing work they are doing for the economy of Nigeria particularly the Tolaram Group.
PM Modi was received by an enthusiastic group of Indian expatriates as is usually the case because he is so very loved by people. That is the main reason he has been elected for the third time as Prime Minister of India as his achievements against endemic corruption in India has shown big results for people can changed millions of lives by poverty alleviation schemes that actually work and not just work on paper.
PM Modi has been able to transform Indian economy into a global power where developed Countries now perceive India to be an economic threat rather than a pauper economy that used to live off their doles back in the day. India's foreign reserves have crossed USD 700 billion mark and its stock market has turned investors into millionaires since Modi became PM. Its currency has been stable around the $1-84 rupee region as well.
Nigeria and India relations will touch new highs after this visit and we will soon hear about more economic measures taken to help with the current situation the Nigerian economy is in.
